Malmborg's History
Lloyd and Pearl Malmborg established Malmborg's Garden Center in 1958. George Lucht worked with Lloyd for many years and in 1972 George purchased the business from Lloyd and Pearl. "Malmborg's Garden Center" had earned an excellent reputation in the community and George decided to keep the name "Malmborg's" and add "Geraniums By George" as his own personal touch. George expanded the business when he purchased the Rogers location in 1976 and developed greenhouses and a retail store on the site. Our retail stores feature a wide selection of plant material in both varieties and sizes, all grown in our own facilities. We also feature a good selection of supplies, and have a knowledgeable staff to assist you in your purchases. In 2005 when the Brooklyn Center location was damaged by severe weather the offices were moved to the Rogers location where they remain today.
Malmborg's is truly a family owned and operated business. Today George (CEO) and his son Troy (President) own the company. George's daughter Keri handles many varied aspects of the business including inventory, planning and customer service. Van Cooley, George's son-in-law, leads the sales and marketing drive in retail and fundraising. George's grandchildren are learning more about the business as they spend available time working in the greenhouse and retail stores.
During the winter months our production is in rooting plants for other greenhouses. These plants are sold through a number of national brokers and shipped to about forty states. We grow a variety of poinsettias that are provided to many organizations through our fundraising program. This allows organizations to raise funds for their continued community service and supply their customers with beautiful poinsettias.
We root over nine hundred varieties of plants, producing over four and one half million plants, which are brought in from other countries. Materials come from around the world.
