A Message from Malmborg’s President
It is true that our Brooklyn Center Garden Center will be closing this summer, but our Rogers and Blaine Garden Centers will remain open this year and in future years.
The Brooklyn Center location functions with very old, inefficient facilities and we are not allowed by zoning laws to replace our structures or if a fire or storm happened to occur rebuild them. After considering an offer made by New Millennium Academy earlier this year, it was decided that this was a great opportunity for Brooklyn Center to have a school, serving over 500 kindergarten through 8th grade students, that matches the region and would allow Malmborg’s to invest in our other garden centers at Rogers and Blaine. There has been talk that this was a financial decision but it is really a decision to strengthen the company and allow Malmborg’s to continue be in a financially solid condition in a very difficult industry.
We understand that this is difficult for everyone and it brings sadness to many. This decision is not made lightly or rashly, it comes with uncertainties for all of us. I have lived in the house on the property for 47 years and will now need to move as well. This year marks 60 years since George starting working at the Brooklyn Center greenhouse for the owner before Lloyd Malmborg. We have a lot of great memories. We have had the privilege to work alongside really great people and to interact with really great customers.
Thank you to all that have supported Malmborg’s and our family over the years – whether as customers or as employees. We are very grateful. All of you are the people that have built our reputation as a great place to shop. We look forward to the opportunity to serve you at one of our other locations,
President, Malmborg’s Greenhouse & Garden Centers
